Getting started
What is eyyo!?
eyyo! lets you leave a message for the owner of any vehicle using its number plate, car, motorbike, van or lorry, and allows other drivers to contact you about yours once you claim your plate. Lights left on, blocked in, a dent you witnessed, a thank-you: send a message to the number plate, and if the owner has claimed it on eyyo! they receive it as a chat message. Neither of you will see the other's name, phone number or email.
#How do I create an account?
Tap Get started, enter a nickname, your email and the country you drive in, and we'll email you a 6-digit code. Enter the code and you are signed in. There is no password to remember. After signing in the first time you will be asked to add your own plate, which is optional.
One inbox, one account. Gmail and some other providers deliver you+anything@, and dotted spellings of your address, to the very same place, so eyyo! treats those as one mailbox. Sign up with your plain address; if you type a different spelling of it later, we will still find your account.
The country is picked from your device's time zone (and your browser's language if the time zone tells us nothing), and you can change it there and later on your Profile page. It decides which plates you can write to: eyyo! only lets you message plates registered in the same country as your account.
eyyo! is not open everywhere yet. We only take new members in countries our privacy policy and terms cover, so some countries are not in the list. We are working on the rest. If you already have an account, a change to that list never affects it.
#How do sign-in codes work?
Each sign-in attempt sends a fresh 6-digit code to your email. It works once and expires after 10 minutes. After 5 incorrect attempts the code is cancelled and you need to request a new one. If nothing arrives, check your spam folder and make sure you typed the same email you registered with. One address can be sent 5 codes an hour, so nobody can fill your inbox with codes you did not ask for. You stay signed in on that device until you sign out.
#Can I install eyyo! like an app?
Yes. eyyo! is a web app that installs to your home screen without an app store. On iPhone, open it in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. On Android, tap the browser menu and choose Install app or Add to Home screen. On desktop Chrome or Edge, use the install icon in the address bar. The Profile page displays instructions for your device until you have installed it.
#How do invite codes work?
Your Profile page shows your personal invite code and a share button that sends a link with the code built in. A friend who opens the link, or types the code into the Invite code box when they create their account, is counted as invited by you.
Once they have finished setting up their account, you receive 1 kudos for them. Kudos from invites show on your Kudos card alongside the thanks people gave you, and count in your position among members. They do not count towards the Trusted badge, which only thanks from real conversations can earn. Up to 50 invited friends count; beyond that they are welcome but earn no more kudos.
Nobody learns anything about anybody: your friend is never told who you are on eyyo!, and you only ever see how many people joined with your code, never who or when. Your code is a random string, not your driver pseudonym, so it cannot be matched to any chat. If an invited friend later deletes their account, the kudos goes with it.
#Can I use dark mode?
Yes. On the Profile page, under Appearance, choose System, Light or Dark. The System option follows your device setting. The choice is saved on that device only.
#Your vehicles
How do I add my vehicle?
Go to Vehicles and tap Add a vehicle. Enter the plate and country. Spaces and letter case do not matter: gg 123x and GG123X are the same plate. Once added, the messages other drivers leave for that plate will appear in Messages. Any messages sent before you claimed the plate will be waiting there.
#What can I add to a vehicle?
A photo, a nickname (only you see it), make, model, year and private notes. None of this is shown to the drivers who write to you: they see only the plate. The plate itself cannot be edited after it has been added; remove the vehicle and add it again if you made a typo.
#My plate is already claimed by someone else. What now?
If you try to add a plate that another account has already claimed, eyyo! opens an ownership dispute. Explain the situation and upload proof - for example, your vehicle grant or registration card (JPG, PNG, WebP or PDF up to 10 MB). A moderator reviews it. If approved, the plate is transferred to your account and the previous owner loses access to it. You can have one open dispute per plate and up to 5 new disputes a day. Follow progress under Vehicles → Disputes in progress or on your Profile.
#Why does eyyo! say a plate cannot be used?
A small number of plates are kept off eyyo!: emergency and enforcement vehicles, and any plate we have been asked to take down. You cannot claim one or write to one, and if a plate is added to that list later, the chats on it close for everyone. Everything already said stays where it is; nobody can add to it. If you believe your own plate is on the list by mistake, tell us through the contact form and we will look at it.
#I sold my vehicle. How do I release the plate?
Open the vehicle and choose Remove vehicle. The plate becomes free for the next owner to claim. Every message you received for it is sealed: the next owner will never see your conversations, and you will not see any of theirs. The same sealing happens automatically when a plate is transferred through a dispute.
#Sending and receiving messages
How do I message a vehicle?
In For You or Messages, tap New message, enter the plate number and your message (up to 250 characters: a note, not an essay), then tap Send. You can attach one photo (JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 10 MB) with Add a photo, on its own or with text: handy for showing a scratch or where a vehicle is parked. We shrink it, strip its location and camera data and store it under a random name; only the two of you (and our moderators, if the chat is reported) can open it. The plate must be registered in the same country as your account: eyyo! tells you if it is not, and you can change your country on the Profile page. If the owner has claimed that plate they are notified at once. If nobody has claimed it yet, your messages are stored and delivered when someone claims the plate. All your chats appear in one list under Messages, newest first: an outgoing arrow marks cars you wrote to, an incoming one marks drivers who wrote to your car, and the chips at the top narrow the list. For you lists only chats with unread messages; everything else, including notes you sent that have not been answered yet, is under Messages.
#What does the other person see about me?
Almost nothing. When you write to a vehicle, the owner sees you as Driver followed by a short code, the code remains the same, allowing them to distinguish you from other drivers. When someone writes to your car, you see them the same way and they see you only as Owner of your plate. Names, emails, photos and other plates you own are never shown to the other side, unless you both agree to become Fwenns, which shares nicknames (and photos, if you tick the box) between the two of you only.
#What do Delivered, Seen and Waiting for an owner mean?
Waiting for an owner: nobody has claimed that plate yet; your note is stored and delivered when they do. Delivered: the owner has the message but has not opened the chat. Seen: they opened it. The status is shown under your most recent message only.
#Why can't I send another message?
To keep chats conversational rather than one-sided, nobody can send more than 2 messages in a row. Once the other side replies, you can write again. On an unclaimed plate you can leave 2 notes; more can follow once an owner claims the plate and replies. Trusted members may send 3 in a row; an account with a recent upheld report is limited to one until it ages out.
Two other limits exist: you can send at most 5 notes to the same plate per day, and roughly 5 messages a minute or 30 an hour overall. If you reach either limit, wait a little and try again.
#What does the Thanks button do, and what is a Trusted badge?
Under any message you receive, there is a Thanks button. Tap it when a note was helpful or polite; the sender gets a small notification and the message shows as thanked. It is the only rating on eyyo!: there is no thumbs-down, because unfair or abusive messages are better handled by Flag and Report.
Thanks contribute to your reputation. Once 8 different people have thanked you (5 for Premium accounts) and you have had no upheld report or removed message for 90 days, you become Trusted: a small badge appears beside your name in chats, and you may send 3 messages in a row instead of 2. Thanks from deleted or muted accounts, or on messages later removed by a moderator, do not count.
Your thanks add up to your kudos. The Kudos card on For You shows how many you have received and where that places you among every member of eyyo! (equal counts share the same position, and the card tells you how many members you share it with). If you have Fwenns, it also shows your position among them. Only you see your positions: there is no public leaderboard, so nobody can be picked out as the most-thanked driver. Your Profile page shows the same count and your progress towards the Trusted badge.
#I have a new account and hit a message limit. Why?
Accounts younger than 3 days can send 10 messages in total, replies included. This stops people creating throwaway accounts to pester others. The limit is lifted automatically once your account is 3 days old; the message you see tells you the exact date. Premium accounts are not subject to this limit.
#How do I hide, mute or pin a conversation?
Open the chat and use the icons in the bar above the messages. Hide (eye icon) moves the chat into the Hidden section at the bottom of Messages; it returns automatically the next time the other person writes. Mute (bell icon) is for people you do not want to hear from: the chat remains in Hidden even when they write; you receive no notification, and the message is not marked as unread. In both cases, the other person is not notified and can still write; the usual limit of unanswered messages still applies to them. Open the chat in Hidden to unhide or unmute it.
Premium members also get a Pin icon in the same bar: pinned chats stay at the top of Messages (up to 10). Hiding or muting a chat unpins it.
#What is a Fwenn?
A Fwenn is someone you have agreed to know by nickname. Normally the other side of a chat sees you only as Driver plus a code or Owner of your plate. Premium members can tap Add as Fwenn in a chat; the other person (any account type) sees the request in that chat and decides. Before either of you commits, eyyo! tells you exactly what changes: once accepted, you see each other's nickname in every conversation between you, on any plate either of you owns. Each of you also chooses, with a tick box, whether to show your profile photo. Nothing else is shared: no email, no other plates, no vehicle details.
A declined request is not announced to the person who asked; they simply cannot ask you again for 14 days. Either Fwenn can end the link at any time from the chat header, silently, and you go back to seeing each other as Driver and Owner. Deleting an account removes all its Fwenn links. Moderators, who see real names anyway, are not affected.
#Can I message my own vehicle?
No. You cannot message a number plate you own, since you would be talking to yourself. If you want to test eyyo!, ask a friend to write to your plate.
#How do I get notified of new messages?
Turn on push notifications using the bell icon in the header or the switch on your Profile. Your browser will ask for permission once; after that the bell disappears from the header on that device, and the switch on your Profile is where you turn notifications off again. You are notified when a driver writes to one of your vehicles and when an owner replies to you; tapping the notification opens the chat. On iPhone, notifications work only after you have installed eyyo! to your home screen. Once installed and with notifications allowed, the app icon shows a number: your unread messages, the same count as the Messages tab. It updates when a notification arrives and whenever you open the app, and clears when everything is read (iPhone from iOS 16.4, Android and desktop Chrome or Edge). The Messages tab also shows an unread count, and an open chat updates automatically while you are viewing it, so there is no need to refresh.
#A chat says "Anonymous driver" and I cannot reply. Why?
Older notes were left before sign-in became required, so there is no account to reply to. You can still read them. All notes sent now come from signed-in accounts and can be answered.
#Reporting, moderation and consequences
What is not allowed on eyyo!?
eyyo! is for practical, civil messages between drivers. The following are not allowed: harassment or insults, threats or intimidation, discrimination of any kind, revealing or asking for personal information (addresses, phone numbers, ID or bank details), spam and advertising, scams, sexual content, and using eyyo! to follow or track someone. Repeatedly messaging a plate whose owner does not respond is also treated as harassment, regardless of the wording. The full list is in the Terms of use.
#How do I flag a single message?
Under any message from the other person, tap Flag (the small flag under the message), select the reason and confirm. Only our moderators receive the flag. The sender is not notified, and nothing changes in the chat for them. A flag relates to a single message; if the whole conversation is the problem, report it instead.
#How do I report a conversation?
Open the chat and tap Report at the top. Choose the reason and, if you can, describe what happened. Moderators review the entire conversation, including your own messages, so context is never lost. You can have one open report per conversation; while it is under review the chat shows Reported · under review. The other person is not informed that you reported them.
#What happens after I report or flag something?
A moderator reviews the conversation and decides one of the following:
- Dismissed: no rule was broken. Nothing changes.
- Message hidden: the offending message is removed from the chat for both sides and replaced with This message was removed by a moderator.
- Account muted: the person cannot send messages in any chat for 7, 30 or 90 days. They see the reason and the date the mute ends. Repeat offences lead to longer mutes.
Currently, we do not notify you when the case is closed. If the behaviour continues after a report, report again: each report is reviewed.
#I was muted. What does that mean?
A moderator found that one of your messages broke the rules. While muted you can still read your chats and manage your vehicles, but you cannot send messages anywhere. The composer shows the date the mute ends. There is no appeal form yet; if you believe the decision was wrong, write to us through the contact form while signed in.
#I got a message from the "eyyo! team". Is it real?
Yes, if it appears under Messages as eyyo! team with the blue check, above your vehicle chats. That thread is the only place where the eyyo! team will contact you within the app: the welcome note every new member gets, a note about your account, the outcome of a report, or a warning (marked in orange) when something you sent broke the rules. We never ask for sign-in codes, payment details or personal documents there, and we never message you as a driver or an owner.
You can reply in the same thread, up to 3 times in a row until the team replies. You cannot start the thread yourself: to reach us, use the contact form.
Opening the thread marks it read. If you would rather leave it for later, the tick beside the row in your list clears the unread badge without opening it; the message stays there.
#What if someone reports me unfairly?
Reports are reviewed by a person, and actions are not taken automatically. A report on a polite, reasonable conversation is dismissed and has no effect on your account. Deliberately false or repeated bad-faith reports are themselves a violation of the rules and can lead to the reporter being muted.
#Someone keeps messaging me. How do I make it stop?
If you do not reply, they cannot send more than 2 consecutive messages. Then Report the conversation so a moderator can mute them. You can also Mute the chat (the bell icon in the chat, or the checkbox when you report): you will stop receiving notifications, the chat will move to Hidden, and the sender will not be notified. If you feel unsafe, contact the police as well; we cooperate with lawful requests.
#What can moderators see?
Moderators see the full conversation associated with a report or flag, the account names and emails of both participants, when the accounts were created and how many messages they have sent. They do not see your private vehicle notes or photos. Only eyyo! staff can serve as moderators.
#Account and privacy
What are Basic and Premium accounts?
Everyone starts as Basic, which includes everything described on this page. Premium accounts are exempt from the new-account message limit, can pin chats to the top of Messages, and can send Fwenn requests. There is no way to upgrade your account yet; the Profile page shows your current type. Beta tester is a thank-you we give to people helping us try eyyo! out while it is new: the Premium features at no charge, and their visits left out of our statistics so testing does not skew what we learn. It is not a staff role and opens nothing else. You may also see Moderator, Admin and Super admin: those are staff roles that eyyo! grants to some accounts on top of their type, so they can review reports and run the service. All of these are assigned by us, can be taken away again, and cannot be purchased.
#How do I change my nickname or photo?
On the Profile page, edit your nickname and save, or tap your avatar to upload a photo (JPG, PNG or WebP up to 10 MB) and crop it. Your nickname does not need to be your real name. It and your photo are shown only to you and to moderators, never to the people you chat with.
#How do I sign out of a device I no longer have?
You stay signed in on every device until you sign out on it yourself: there is no timeout, and signing out on one device leaves the others alone. To end a sign-in you cannot reach, go to the Profile page, tick Sign out on my other devices too before you sign out. Every phone, tablet and computer that is signed in to your account is signed out, and notifications stop on all of them, so a lost or borrowed device cannot show your messages any more. A device with eyyo! open signs itself out within a few seconds; one that is closed is signed out the moment it is opened again. Nothing is deleted: sign in again with a fresh code and turn notifications back on wherever you want them.
#What data do you keep, and who can see it?
We keep your name, email, plates and the messages you send and receive. Messages stay stored so disputes and reports can be reviewed, even after a plate changes hands (the new owner never sees them). Only the public eyyo! pages can turn up in search results: the app itself, your messages and your uploads are never listed. We do not sell or share data with advertisers. We collect anonymous usage statistics (pages viewed, device type, referrer) with no cookies, no IP addresses and no third-party analytics service. Uploaded photos are stripped of location and camera metadata. The Privacy policy provides full details, including retention periods and your rights.
#How do I sign out or delete my account?
Sign out is the first row of the Profile page; it asks you to confirm and only affects that device. At the bottom of the page, Delete account removes your account immediately once you type DELETE to confirm: your plates are released (and the messages you received through them are sealed from the next owner), your name, email, photo, notification settings and any dispute documents are erased, and you are signed out on every device. Messages you sent stay in the recipients' chats, shown as coming from an anonymous driver, and cannot be replied to. You can register again with the same email later, but nothing is restored.
#How do I contact eyyo!?
Use the contact form and select a topic: general enquiry, commercial, partnership, a request (your data, your email address, a feature idea) or a report. We reply by email, usually within a few days. If you are not signed in, we first email you a 6-digit code to confirm your address, which helps prevent automated spam. For a problem with a specific message in a chat, use Report inside that chat instead; this sends the full context to moderators.
#No answers match that. Try another word, or contact us.
